Offering donations is the duty and responsibility of every Muslim, and the concept was emphasized by the Holy Quran and the Sunnah (actions and sayings) of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Without making donations to charities or needy individuals, a Muslim’s soul can never be fully purified, and inner peace can not be attained.
Offering charity to the poor and the needy in Allah’s name is a moral and religious obligation of Muslims. Any Muslim Aid—large or small—fulfills this obligation and enables Muslims to value their own wealth and show gratitude for it.
‘Whatever charities you give or vows you make are surely known to Allah. And the wrongdoers will have no helpers.’ (Surah Al-Baqrah – 2:270)

Zakat is a mandatory type of Islamic Charity. It is offered during Ramadan every year. Muslims must pay 2.5% on their earthly possessions.

Sadaqah originates from the Arabic word ‘Sidq,’ which means sincerity. It is a selfless act of giving, and Muslims offer it to the needy purely from the goodness of their hearts. No fixed amount has to be given.

Fidya refers to a type of compensation that also fulfills the goal of charity. It must be given when fasts are missed during Ramadan deliberately due to a valid reason (for example, traveling, sickness, or menstruation).

Kaffarah is a form of donation that the Muslim must pay if a fast is missed deliberately without a valid reason. It entails feeding 60 people, while Fidya refers to feeding only a single person.
