The Telecommunication Blackout In Sudan

We at the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA) strongly condemn the ongoing telecommunication blackout in Sudan, which has rendered almost 65% of the country’s population unreachable.

The situation has drastically worsened recently. This blackout directly impacts our humanitarian aid programs, limiting our reach and ability to assist those in need within the areas of our operations.

The telecommunication blackout is a violation of people’s basic right to communicate and to freely access information. It hinders the efforts of humanitarian organizations like SAPA and its partners, to gather necessary data and provide timely and effective assistance to those in need.

We call for an immediate de-escalation to avoid further deterioration of the humanitarian crisis. As well as, an immediate restoration of the telecommunication services. The ability of civilians to communicate is a basic right that should be ensured and protected.

Furthermore, we urge the international community to support our efforts to alleviate the suffering of the people of Sudan and provide them with the necessary assistance in these difficult times.
